About the Organization

Founded in 1938, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is a private not-for-profit company that conserves wetland habitat and associated upland habitats.

Mission and Goals
DUC conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats for the benefit of waterfowl, wildlife and people.

Current Projects

Lake Simcoe-Georgian Bay Wetland Collaborative (2014-2017): Funded by Environment Canada this initiative aims to reduce phosphorus inputs into Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay through stronger protection of existing wetlands and increase wetland restoration activities. This project will achieve its goals through landowner outreach, municipal engagement and research that will improve the conservation of critical wetland habitat. The main collaborative partners in addition to DUC are the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority and Severn Sound Environmental Association.

Past Projects

Approximately 30 wetland conservation projects around the watershed including nest box installations, livestock exclusion fencing and restoration of drained wetlands.

Future Projects

The Lake Simcoe Georgian Bay Wetland Collaborative will result in a minimum of 23 wetland enhancement projects within the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay watersheds. Projects can be on private or public land and incorporate a variety of innovate wetland enhancement techniques.
